MESOTHELIOMA DOCTOR DISCUSSES MESOTHELIOMA TREATMENTS AND THE GOAL OF PROLONGING THE LIFE OF PATIENTS UNTIL A MESOTHELIOMA CURE IS FOUND.
The guest for this video is Albert Miller, MD, a pulmonologist who is currently a Professor of Clinical Medicine at New York Medical College, a Research Professor at Queens College, and an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital and School of Medicine. He is an experienced with mesothelioma education and mesothelioma treatments, having taught, written and specialized in occupational lung disease for many years. There is currently no mesothelioma cure. For many years, Dr. Miller worked with Irving Selikoff, the most famous asbestos research doctor worldwide. Dr. Miller has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals about mesothelioma, and he has participated in studies of asbestos workers.
In this video clip, Dr. Miller answers the questions that all patients diagnosed with mesothelioma first want to know - "What is mesothelioma, and is there a mesothelioma treatment or cure?" He then describes the locations (mesothelial tissues) where mesothelioma takes place. The most common site for mesothelioma is the pleural cavity (pleural mesothelioma), followed by then peritoneal cavity (peritoneal mesothelioma). According to Dr. Miller, mesothelioma - regardless of the type - is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos fibers. Due to the diffused nature of the disease and its propensity to invade adjacent organs, a cure for mesothelioma is difficult but hope remains high.
Dr. Miller emphasizes that researchers are working hard to find a mesothelioma cure, but none has been found. There is not one agreed upon treatment for mesothelioma. There are various approaches that are used to try to extend the lives of those with mesothelioma.
